UN health officials report a steady rise in the number of suspected dengue fever cases in Afghanistan since the end of September, with a marked surge during the last 2 weeks.
During the second week of November, officials report 1,021 suspected cases of dengue fever with no associated deaths were reported from Nangarhar province, which shows a 7.7% increase compared to the preceding week (948).
Since the beginning of 2025, 4,384 suspected dengue fever cases, with no associated deaths, have been reported from 6 provinces (Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Kabul, Ghazni, and Paktya). Out of total cases, 4,283 (97.7%) were over five years old, while 1,780 (40.6%) were females.
In response, a field mission is planned for further investigation and response measures in the eastern region (Nangarhar province). and a total of 1,150 kits (10 tests per kit) of dengue fever RDTs have been distributed to 6 provinces (Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Nuristan, Kandahar, and Ghazni).
