Argentina dengue epidemic: 4.25 times more cases than those registered in the same period of the 2022/2023 season
10.2 times more cases than recorded in the same period of 2019/2020.
The Argentina Ministry of Health reports a much greater magnitude of dengue this season than previous years.
During the epidemiological weeks (EW) 31 of 2023 through EW 16 of 2024 (91% indigenous, 7% in research and 2% imported) and 379,341 of the cases are just from January 1.
Compared to other epidemic years, the current season is characterized by: Greater magnitude than previous epidemic seasons: cases accumulated up to EW 16 are equivalent to 4.25 times those registered in the same period of the 2022/2023 season; and 10.2 times more than recorded in the same period of 2019/2020.
Concerning dengue serotypes present this season, three serotypes have been identified circulating in the country- DENV-2 (56.89%), DENV-1 (43.01%) and DENV-3 (0.10%).
270 dengue fatalities have been reported since the beginning of the year.
With respect to children under 15 years of age, 67,473 cases have been registered so far (rate of incidence of 607 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), of which 125 were reported as severe dengue (0.19%) and 16 deaths (whose median age was 6 years and the specific fatality of 0.02%).

Regarding pregnant women, 1,871 cases were registered in this population group, with a median age of 25 years. Among pregnant women diagnosed with dengue, 15 cases were reported as severe dengue and four cases as deaths.
