According to Australia health officials and as of September 21 this year, Australia has recorded a significant resurgence in pertussis cases, with a total of 29,648 cases, the highest number since 2011 when 38,748 cases were reported.
The largest number of cases has been reported in New South Wales (14,134 cases), followed by Queensland (9,108 cases) and Victoria (4,758 cases). This sharp increase follows a period of reduced cases during the COVID-19 pandemic years (2020-2022), with a notably low total of 483 cases in 2022.
