Rio de Janeiro's municipal health secretary, Daniel Soranz, confirmed the second death from dengue in the municipality. Now, the number of deaths from the disease in the state has risen to four, two in the capital, one in Mangaratiba and one in Itatiaia.
The second victim of dengue fever is a 23-year-old man, resident of Senador Camará, who presented symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, vomiting, nausea, pain in the joints and behind the eyes and had no pre-existing illnesses. The condition evolved, after 3 days, to signs of alarm and severity such as postural hypotension, that is, when changing position, a sensation of loss of muscle strength, an abrupt drop in platelets, intense abdominal pain, spontaneous mucosal bleeding and dehydration. The RT PCR test was detectable for dengue type 2 (DENV2).

The city of Rio de Janeiro entered an emergency situation on February 5th due to the increase in the number of hospitalizations due to suspected dengue fever. The city hall presented a contingency plan to combat the disease epidemic, which provides measures to assist the population and combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits the dengue virus.
Among the measures announced are the opening of ten service centers, the creation of the Emergency Operations Center (COE-Dengue) and the provision of beds for dengue patients in municipal hospitals. In addition, the use of smoke cars is planned in regions with the highest incidence of cases and compulsory entry into closed and abandoned properties.
