To date, the state of Mato Grosso do Sul in central-west Brazil has already registered 19,358 probable cases of Dengue, with 15,982 confirmed cases, in 2024. This is the lowest number of cases reported since 2021.
These data were presented in the bulletin for the the 44th epidemiological week, released by SES (State Health Department) November 8. According to the document, 30 deaths were confirmed due to the disease and another 17 are under investigation.
In the last 14 days, Antônio João and Laguna Caarapã had an average incidence of probable cases of the disease. The deaths registered occurred in the municipalities of Maracaju, Chapadão do Sul, Coronel Sapucaia, Dourados, Laguna Carapã, NaviraÃ, Sete Quedas, Amambai, Paranhos, Ponta Porã, Iguatemi, ItaquiraÃ, Aparecida do Taboado, Mundo Novo, Campo Grande and Bonito. Among the victims, 15 of them had some type of comorbidity.
Vaccination
According to the bulletin, 98,784 doses of the vaccine have already been administered to the population of the age group permitted by the label. In total, Mato Grosso do Sul has already received 189,910 doses of the dengue vaccine from the Ministry of Health. The vaccination schedule consists of two doses with a three-month interval between doses.
Chikungunya
Regarding Chikungunya, the state has already registered 3,289 probable cases, of which 911 have been confirmed. There have been no deaths recorded. The SES warns that people should avoid self-medication. In case of symptoms of dengue or Chikungunya, the recommendation is to seek out a health unit in the municipality.
