Brazil: Dengue, Oropouche and Yellow fever through the 1st four weeks of 2025
Dengue fever
The Ministry of Health's monitoring panel reports as of today, 162,670 probable dengue fever cases, including 31 deaths and another 176 deaths under investigation.
São Paulo state reports more than half the cases in the country with 89,579, followed by Minas Gerais with 15,218 and Espirito Santo with 14,702.
Espirito Santo reports the highest incidence of the disease with 358.4 people per 100,000 population. This is followed by Acre at 325.5/100,000 population and São Paulo at 194.9/100,000 population.
Oropouche
In the first four weeks of 2025, Brazil officials report 2791 confirmed Oropouche virus cases.
The vast majority of cases (2652) have been reported in Espirito Santo, followed by Rio de Janiero (99) and Minas Gerais (30).
In all of 2023, Brazil saw 831 confirmed cases and in 2024, 13,782 confirmed cases were reported.
Yellow fever in São Paulo
In January, three people died from yellow fever in the state of São Paulo. The data was confirmed by the State Health Department and includes cases registered up until last Friday. This number already exceeds that registered in the whole of last year, when two cases were confirmed, with one death.
In total, seven cases of yellow fever in humans have been confirmed this year, all in the interior of São Paulo. Four of these cases were registered in Socorro, one in Tuiuti and one in Joanópolis, places where vaccination and health actions are being reinforced. Another case is still under investigation.
