Brazil: Mato Grosso do Sul reports more than 500 dengue, 600 chikungunya cases in first weeks of 2026
In 2026, Mato Grosso do Sul has already registered 577 probable cases of dengue, with 23 of them confirmed, according to the SES (State Health Secretariat).
There was no confirmation or investigation of deaths due to the disease.
The SES bulletin also shows the progress of immunization. 223,322 doses of the dengue vaccine have already been administered to the target population. In total, the state received 241,030 doses of the vaccine from the Ministry of Health.
Composed of two doses with a three-month interval between them, the vaccination schedule is recommended for children and adolescents between 10 and 14 years, 11 months and 29 days of age. This age group corresponds to the highest number of hospitalizations due to dengue fever among children and adolescents aged 6 to 16 years.
Regarding chikungunya, Mato Grosso do Sul registered 666 probable cases, with 125 of them confirmed in the SINAN (Information System for Notifiable Diseases). To date, no cases of the disease have been confirmed in pregnant women.
The State Health Department warns that people should avoid self-medication. Therefore, in case of dengue or chikungunya symptoms, the recommendation is to seek medical attention at a health unit.
