The Centro de Operações de Emergência em Saúde (COE), or the Health Emergency Operations Center for the Ministry of Health in Brazil now reports the total dengue cases reported in the country is 762,542 through February 23.
In addition, 150 confirmed dengue deaths have reported and another 523 are under investigation.
To date, seven states have issued emergency decrees due to the dengue epidemic—Acre, Federal District, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro and Santa Catarina.
In addition, 126 municipalities have issued emergency declarations.
The Public Health Emergency Operations Center for Dengue and other Arboviruses was established by the Ministry of Health through Ordinance GM/MS No. 3,140, of February 2, 2024 , with the purpose of offering a coordinated and efficient response to epidemiological situations related to these diseases across the country. The action aims to improve planning and coordinated response, in an integrated and coordinated manner with states and municipalities, to combat urban arboviruses in Brazil.
The Center will support the development of actions and strategies aimed at the components of epidemiological, laboratory surveillance, assistance and vector control. With the activation of the COE, the Ministry of Health will monitor and analyze the situation of arboviruses, with an emphasis on dengue, to guide planning, execution and trigger strategic actions for coordinated management of the response to the epidemiological situation at the national level.
Given the impacts of diseases on the population, the implementation of the COE Dengue and other Arboviruses will enable the intensification of monitoring of cases and deaths, in order to improve the response of health services.
