According to the Brazil Ministry of Health, 5,039 deaths from dengue fever in 2024 have already been recorded.
The number is more than four times higher than that recorded throughout the previous year, when 1,179 deaths from the disease were reported.
Another 2,106 fatalities are currently under investigation.
Data from the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel indicate that the country has recorded 6,454,023 probable cases of dengue. The incidence rate of the disease is currently 3,178 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the fatality rate in probable cases is 0.08.
São Paulo has the largest number of probable cases of dengue fever (2,069,131). Next are Minas Gerais (1,698,369), Paraná (644,507) and Santa Catarina (363,850). The states with the lowest number of probable cases are Roraima (546), Sergipe (2,480), Acre (4,649) and Rondônia (5,046).

When considering the incidence rate of the disease, the Federal District appears in first place, with 9,749.7 cases for every group of 100 thousand inhabitants. Next are Minas Gerais (8,266.9), Paraná (5,632.2) and Santa Catarina (4,781.5). The federative units with the lowest rate are Roraima (85.8), Sergipe (112.2), Ceará (138.9) and Maranhão (162.1).
In addition to dengue, Brazil officials have reported 248,335 chikungunya cases and 156 deaths, 7,497 Oropouche fever cases and 8,521 Zika cases.
