The number of pertussis. or whooping cough cases reported in 2024 year to date are more than four times the number of cases reported at the same time in 2023, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
To date, 14,569 pertussis cases have been reported through September 14. This is a 319 percent increase compared to the 3,475 cases reported at the same time in 2023.
This is the most cases reported since 2019.
States reporting the most cases include Pennsylvania (2,008, a 935 percent increase year to year), New York, including NYC (1,710), California (1,015) and Illinois (1.001).
