Chikungunya in Argentina
From the beginning of the year through the end of September 2023, Argentina health officials reported 2,306 cases of chikungunya fever, of which of which 1,700 are indigenous, 336 are imported and 270 are under investigation.
So far this year, nine jurisdictions have reported indigenous viral circulation of chikung territory: the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA), and the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Chaco, Corrientes, Formosa, Misiones, Salta and Santa Faith.
A single case of chikungunya vertical transmission was reported so far in Argentina in the city of Rosario, province of Santa Fe.
In epi week 34, a case associated with encephalitis was reported with positive polymerase chain reaction for Chikungunya virus in Chaco.
Hantavirus in Bolivia
Bolivia health officials report that in 2023 to date, the country has 18 confirmed hantavirus cases so far this year— La Paz (7 cases), Santa Cruz (5), Cochabamba (3) and Tarija (3).
In addition, four deaths have been reported.
