Health authorities on La Reunion island reported 169 additional locally acquired chikungunya cases during the week ending January 26, or epi week 4 of 2025, bringing the total to 529 indigenous cases since August 2024.
Officials report several chikungunya outbreaks are expanding, some of which could merge. The most worrying outbreaks are Bras Creux in Tampon, Ligne des 400 (Tampon/Saint-Pierre) and Ravine Sheunon in L'Etang-Salé.
To date, three patients required hospitalization more than one day and no deaths have been reported.
