China’s National Disease Control and Prevention Administration reported a total of 3,427,657 cases of notifiable infectious diseases in January 2024, including 2,198 deaths across the country.
About 9 percent of the cases are classified as Category B infectious diseases (317,479), while the remainder are Category C infectious diseases.
Among Category B infectious diseases, the top five reported diseases are viral hepatitis- hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatitis D, hepatitis E, and unclassified hepatitis (159,136), tuberculosis (60,660), syphilis (56,658), pertussis (15,275) and gonorrhea (9,112), accounting for 94.8% of the total reported cases of Category B infectious diseases.
Of the viral hepatitis cases, hepatitis B cases (135,873) accounted for the bulk of cases (85%).
2,195 of the 2,198 deaths reported last month were from Cat B diseases. AIDS accounted for 1,730 of the deaths, followed by 383 tuberculosis deaths.
Concerning Category C infectious diseases, influenza cases were by the far the most reported infectious disease (2,988,914) and accounted for the three deaths by a Cat C disease.
The top three reported diseases are influenza, other infectious diarrhea diseases and hand, foot and mouth disease, accounting for 99.7% of the total reported cases of Category C infectious diseases.
No reported cases of morbidity or death from Class A infectious diseases.
