The Angola Ministry of Health confirmed the first cholera case on January 7, prompting the government to declare an outbreak.
The first case was registered in the Cacuaco Municipality of Luanda Province, which is located in a suburban area, with a population of around 1,225,220 inhabitants.
As of January 15, Angola has reported 332 total cholera cases, with 66 confirmed, and 20 fatalities have been reported. The majority of cases, 259 or 78 percent of cases, were reported in Luanda province.

The other affected provinces include Bengo and Icolo e Bengo.
Children and women are the most affected. Highest case count is 0-9 (32.2%), followed by the 10-19 years age group (24.6%). Half the deaths were reported in children under the age of 10.
The last cholera outbreak in Angola was in 2018, when 1,262 cases and 19 deaths were reported from Cabinda, Luanda and UÃge provinces.
