In Costa Rica, the dengue fever situation continues to increase in 2024 in multiple areas across the country.

According to data from the Costa Rica Health Surveillance Directorate, the provinces of Alajuela, Puntarenas and San José have seen a significant increase in cases.
Alajuela leads the list with 5,427 cases, followed by Puntarenas with 4,773 and 3,131 cases in San José.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health is monitoring deaths associated with dengue. These are three deaths being investigated- two in Turrialba and a third in Desamparados-- to determine whether these deaths were caused by the disease.
In response, fumigations were carried out in Alajuelita, Desamparados, Hatillos, Santa Ana and La Sabana during the past week.
In addition, health authorities urge the public to take preventive measures, such as clearing containers that can accumulate water, covering storage tanks, turning over boats, and recycling or reusing materials that can accumulate water.
