The Costa Rica Ministry of Health reports 19,938 total dengue fever cases through August 24 this year. No deaths have been reported.
Costa Rican health authorities reported 30,649 dengue fever cases nationwide in all of 2023. Prior to that, 7,485 cases in 2022, 5,174 cases in 2021, and 10,056 cases in 2020.
The Central North region has the highest number of suspected cases (4,579) and the Brunca region has the highest rate 872.05/100,000 population.
CNRV-INCIENSA reports 911 positive samples by PCR, confirming 462 as serotype 3 (DENV-3) and 188 as serotype 4 (DENV-4).
In addition to dengue, Costa Rica has also reported 28 chikungunya cases and 23 Zika virus cases year to date.
