The Costa Rica Ministry of Health is alerting the population due to the increase in dengue cases and is intensifying efforts to combat the increase.
Through the first six months of 2024, Costa Rica has recorded a total of 12,328 cases of dengue and fortunately, no deaths.
Since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Health has been working on different strategies such as:
Interventions in the priority localities of San José and Alajuela where a total of 63,780 houses were fumigated.
A series of complementary activities were also carried out to eliminate breeding sites, such as educating the population.
Placement of nets with safe insecticides in water storage containers for consumption in order to prevent them from becoming breeding sites.
“Enough applause” communication campaign through the media and social networks.
Throughout the year, the vector control team has fumigated more than 500,000 houses, of which 13,409 had breeding sites with larvae.

In addition, 963,601 deposits have been treated with larvicides and 530,811 have been removed.
Last year by this date, approximately 150,000 fewer homes had been fumigated.
It is expected that this year will end with one million homes fumigated. These interventions are carried out every day in different areas of the country.
"The importance of the population's commitment to work together with the Ministry of Health is reiterated, in order to reduce the number of cases of this disease together. The fumigations and visits from our staff are necessary, but without the help of the population we cannot end this fight," added Dr. Mary Munive Angermüller, Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Health.
Another strategy being implemented includes a province-by-province communication campaign aimed at promoting behavioral changes and educating people about the importance of eliminating breeding sites.
