Democratic Republic of the Congo: More than 1,000 cases of measles including 36 deaths recorded in South Kivu since the beginning of the year
A total of 1,061 cases of measles have been recorded in South Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since January 2025, or in 3 months.
In a press address, Dr. Claude Bahizire, communications officer at the Provincial Health Division (DPS), also reported 36 deaths. According to him, the territories of Mwenga and Shabunda are the most affected by this epidemic.
“Children under 2 years old are the most affected,” he notes.
He urges parents to follow their children's vaccination schedules to combat this disease. Dr. Bahizire reassures that vaccination campaigns will be organized to strengthen children's protection.
