Brazil surpassed more than 1,000 deaths from dengue from January until April 3, the Ministry of Health (MOH) reports.
Through April 5, the total deaths amount to 1,078 confirmed. Throughout all of 2023, the number of deaths from dengue reached 1,179.
1,593 deaths are under investigation, officials note.
The MOH also reported 2,747,643 total dengue cases since the beginning of the year.
This Tuesday (2), the ministry reported that eight Brazilian federative units are showing a downward trend in the number of dengue cases. They are: Acre, Amazonas, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Piauí, Roraima and the Federal District.

“The states that are experiencing a decline are where the epidemic began. For these, we can say that the worst is over”, said the Secretary of Health and Environmental Surveillance at the Ministry of Health, Ethel Maciel, at a press conference.

Another seven states still show an increasing trend: Alagoas, Bahia, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe. In 12 states, the numbers are stable.
Despite the scenario, the Ministry of Health says that it is necessary to continue vigilance against the disease.
