In a follow up on the dengue fever situation in Florida, state health officials report three additional locally acquired cases during the past week—one each in Broward, Miami-Dade and Pasco counties.
This brings the state total year to date to 50—Broward (2), Hillsborough (3), Manatee, Miami-Dade (30), Monroe (3), Orange (2), Palm Beach (3), and Pasco (6) counties.
Forty-one cases have been serotyped by PCR—DENV-3 (37), DENV-1 (4). The remaining 9 are unknown.
In addition, six hundred forty-eight cases with onset in 2024 have been reported in individuals with travel history to a dengue-endemic area in the two weeks prior to onset. Miami-Dade County accounts for 307, followed by Broward County with 77 and Hillsborough County with 46.
In other news, an additional travel associated Oropouche case was reported, bringing the state total to 87 and the US total to 91.
Also, two human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) infection were reported this week in Bay and Martin counties. In 2024, seven human cases of WNV illness acquired in Florida have been reported in five counties.
