Dengue in Florida: 5th local transmission reported
3rd travel associated chikungunya case reported
The Florida Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional locally-acquired dengue fever case during the past week. The new confirmed case was reported in Miami-Dade County.
This brings the total indigenous dengue cases in the state to five since the beginning of the year—Miami-Dade County (4) and Pasco County (1).
All five cases serotyped by PCR as DENV-3.
In 2023, DOH reported 186 cases of locally acquired dengue in five counties: Broward (4), Hardee (19), Miami-Dade (161), Palm Beach, and Polk counties.
In addition, eighty-five cases with onset in 2024 have been reported in individuals with travel history to a dengue-endemic area in the two weeks prior to onset. Miami-Dade and Broward counties account for two-thirds of the imported cases.
In addition to dengue, officials report three travel associated chikungunya cases, all linked to travel to Brazil.
Counties reporting cases were: Broward, Orange, and Pinellas.
