The Florida Department of Health reported an additional five locally acquired dengue fever cases during the week ending September 20.
The new cases were reported in Brevard County (1) and Miami-Dade County (4). This brings the state total to 40 indigenous dengue fever cases to date- Brevard (28), Hillsborough, Miami-Dade (10), and Pasco counties.
There were no reports of dengue acquired in Florida since 1934. Decades later in 2009 a locally acquired dengue outbreak was reported in Key West. Since then, indigenous dengue cases are reported most years.
The number of travel associated dengue cases has risen to 220 this year, six out of ten cases are linked to travel to Cuba. About the same amount of cases have been reported in Miami-Dade County.
Health officials reported two additional travel associated chikungunya cases last week, bringing the total cases to 13 this year.

Counties reporting cases were: Broward (4), Collier, Hillsborough, Lake, Miami-Dade (3), Palm Beach, and Seminole (2). Countries of origin were: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil (2), Cuba (4), India (2), Indonesia, and Sri Lanka (2).
