A total of 4,057 cases of measles, including 122 deaths, have been recorded in South Kivu province since the beginning of 2025.
Head of the office in charge of epidemiological surveillance and health information at the Provincial Health Division in South Kivu (DPS), Justin Bengehya, indicated that it is the measles epidemic that is currently causing too many deaths in the province with a case fatality rate of 3%.
He points out that deaths are more frequently recorded in health zones where geographical accessibility is difficult by road or due to security instability.
Bengehya reports that talks with health partners are underway to organize a vaccination response.

He urges the population to respect the vaccination schedule by taking both doses to protect themselves against measles.
He also points out that the polio vaccination campaign will also be launched soon in all 34 health zones in the province of South Kivu.
