In an update on the Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak in Ethiopia, the Ministry of Health reports no new confirmed MVD cases on December 21, 2025, continuing a trend of containment for at leasst a week in the country’s first such outbreak that started in late November.
Cumulative figures show 14 total confirmed cases, 9 deaths, and 5 recoveries, with zero patients on treatment and 2,495 laboratory tests conducted, reflecting robust surveillance efforts.
In the ongoing outbreak in Ethiopia, authorities are implementing enhanced surveillance, contact tracing, IPC strengthening, and community awareness campaigns, aligned with WHO/CDC guidelines.
Early detection and strict adherence to these measures have contained past outbreaks. Candidate vaccines and therapeutics are in development but not yet licensed.
