The Fiji Ministry of Health reports a dengue fever death in a Xavier College student in the town of Ba.
Through March 23, there have been over 5,100 cases of dengue fever nationally in Fiji.
The Ministry declared a dengue fever outbreak in the Western Division on February 3 and launched targeted interventions, including house-to-house surveillance, larviciding, mosquito control measures and public awareness programs.
The dengue serotypes causing the current outbreak are Dengue Virus Type 2 (DENV-2) and 3 (DENV-3).
The Ministry of Health & Medical Services urges members of the public to be vigilant and take precautionary measures as Dengue cases in the country continue to escalate.
The Ministry pleads with members of the public around Fiji to destroy mosquito breeding places and to clean up their compound and surroundings.
