Florida officials report more locally acquired dengue cases, including the 1st in Manatee County. Travel associated Oropouche rises to 20
Dengue
In a follow-up on the dengue fever situation in Florida this year, The Florida Department of Health reported five additional locally acquired dengue fever cases during the past week, including the first such case in Manatee County.
Through August 17, 23 cases of locally acquired dengue have been reported in Hillsborough (2), Manatee, Miami-Dade (16), Monroe (3), and Pasco counties.
Of the cases that were serotyped by PCR (20), 16 cases were typed as DENV-3, four cases typed as DENV-1 and three are unknown.
In 2023, 186 locally acquired dengue cases were reported from five counties.
Concerning travel associated dengue in 2024, officials report 378 cases year to date from 31 of 67 counties in Florida, which include 160 cases in Miami-Dade County, Broward County (53) and Hillsborough County (27).
More than one-third of the travel associated dengue (134) are linked to travel from Cuba.

Oropouche
In a follow-up on the Oropouche fever situation in the state, health officials reported an additional nine travel associated cases during the past week, bringing the total to 20.
Counties reporting cases were: Hillsborough (4), Lee (2), Miami-Dade (9), Orange (2), Polk (2), and Sarasota. All the cases are linked to travel from Cuba.
Other
In 2024, three human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) illness acquired in Florida have been reported in Duval (July), Marion (July), and Walton (July) counties. Three asymptomatic positive blood donors were reported from Marion (July) and Walton (July, August) counties.
In addition, five cases of travel associated chikungunya have been reported this year—Broward (2), Manatee, Orange, and Pinellas. All cases had a travel history with Brazil.
