Florida reports first two local dengue cases of 2024
Cases reported in Miami-Dade and Pasco counties
The Florida Department of Health has reported the first locally-transmitted dengue fever cases of the year.
The cases were reported in Miami-Dade and Pasco counties and both had onset in January 2024.
PCR serotyping reveals both cases are serotype DENV-3.
In 2023, 186 cases of locally acquired dengue were reported in Broward (4), Hardee (19), Miami-Dade (161), Palm Beach, and Polk counties, with the majority of cases being the DENV-3 strain.
DENV-1 and DENV-2 were also detected last year, but in much lower numbers.
