Health authorities in France recently reported three additional autochthonous cases of dengue in the PyrénéesOrientales, Lozère and Gard departments, bringing the total of locally transmitted cases to six in 2024.
The six cases have been reported from Hérault (1 case), Alpes-Maritimes (2 cases), Pyrénées-Orientales and Lozère (2 cases) and the Gard (1 case) departments.
In addition, these cases are the first and only reported in Europe year to date.
Travel associated dengue cases in France this year have topped 3,000 and many of the cases were contracted in Martinique, Guadeloupe and Guyana.
In addition to the locally transmitted dengue, France has also recorded one locally transmitted chikungunya case this year from Ile-de-France region.
France has reported autochthonous dengue since 2010. Since 2010, 167 locally transmitted cases have been reported in the country.
