Health officials in French Polynesia have been battling a dengue epidemic since November 2023, and continues to see a high number cases into the first week of 2025.
During the first week of 2025, 70 new dengue cases were reported, including residents of Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahine, Raiatea, Rangiroa, Arutua and two visitors, including six new hospitalizations were reported including four aged 0–10 year old and two aged 15 and 17 years-old.
The total number of reported cases is 663 (625 confirmed cases and 38 probable cases) since November 27, 2023. The incidence and positivity rate have increased compared to previous weeks.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, no severe cases or deaths have been reported.
Since late July, DENV-1 has become the predominant serotype in the country, representing 100% of serotyped samples in the first week of January 2025.
