The cholera outbreak that started in the Greater Accra region in October has grown to a total of 4,155 suspected cases and 35 deaths through December 23.
Other regions are now also affected by the outbreak- Central, Eastern, Western and Ashanti have reported confirmed cases.
The Western Region has reported the most deaths at 17.
A oral cholera vaccination campaign took place between November 30 and December 19 in cholera hotspots in which more that 650,000 people were vaccinated.
Afterwards, reported cases in those districts have declined, according to the Ghana Health Service.
The Ministry of Health has also activated emergency health teams, enhanced infection control measures, and conducted environmental assessments.
Approximately 220,000 total cholera cases were reported among African Union Member States this year, including 3,500 deaths in 2024 to date.
