On Tuesday, the National Public Health and Reference Laboratory ((NPHRL) of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) confirmed a Mpox, or monkeypox case in a patient from the Western North Region.
The patient, a young male child presented with a history of rash, fever and body aches.
This is the first confirmed case of 2024. Ghana reported 120 cases in 2022 and eight cases last year.
25 contacts of the case have been identified and are currently being monitored. The patient has been discharged and in stabile condition.
In Africa, between the beginning of the year and September 21, a total of 34,297 cases of mpox, of which 6,806 have been confirmed and 866 deaths [case fatality rate (CFR): 2.5%] have been reported from 15 African Union (AU) Member States (MS).
