According to data from the World Health Organization, from January 1 to December 29, 2024, a cumulative total of 804,721 cholera cases and 5,805 deaths were reported from 33 countries across five WHO regions.
The Eastern Mediterranean Region recorded the highest numbers (597,026 cases and 2,403 deaths; eight countries), followed by the African Region (177,570 cases and 3,180; 18 countries), the South-East Asia Region (19,348 cases and 58 deaths; five countries), the Region of the Americas (10,556 cases and 162 deaths; one country), and the European Region (221 cases and 2 deaths; one country).
No outbreaks were reported in the Western Pacific Region in 2024.
Countries reporting the most cases in 2024 include: Yemen (260,552), Afghanistan (175,262), Pakistan (76,573), Sudan (51,534) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (31,135).

Sudan reported the most deaths (1,296), followed by Yemen (879) and Nigeria (726).
WHO notes, the data presented here should be interpreted cautiously due to potential underreporting and reporting delays. This may affect the timeliness of reports, and consequently, the presented figures might not accurately represent the true burden of cholera.
