The National Public Health Organization (EODY) reports as of August 26, a total of two hundred and thirty-two (232) domestic cases of West Nile virus (WNV) infection.
One hundred and sixty-five (165) cases presented manifestations from the Central Nervous System (CNS, encephalitis and/or meningitis and/or acute flaccid paralysis) and sixty-seven (67) cases had mild manifestations/no CNS manifestations.
Nineteen (19) deaths have been recorded in patients infected with the virus, aged over 65 years (median age of death: 85 years, range: 66 - 92 years).
89 patients remain hospitalized across the country.
