Iranian health officials are reporting more than 1,000 dengue fever cases this current Iranian year through late December 2024.
According to Dr. Qobad Moradi, head of the Center for Management of Communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Health reports 1,073 cases of dengue fever have been reported in the country since the beginning of this year.
In addition, Moradi said 863 of the cases are classified as locally-transmitted, with the vast majority reported from Chabahar city (852), in the southernmost parts of the country.
Stating that we must prevent the spread and expansion of dengue fever, Moradi said: "The Ministry of Health has been able to identify two serotypes of dengue fever in the city of Chabahar. We at the Ministry of Health must control the situation in a way to prevent the entry of other serotypes of this disease.”
Moradi stated that surface waters are abundant in the city of Chabahar, which provides space for the multiplication of the Aedes mosquito, and lamented that unfortunately, people living in the city lack some facilities, such as a sewage system.
The epidemiologist said: "The Ministry of Health is doing its utmost to ensure that the country's healthcare system is prepared to deal with dengue fever.”
