Israel: Polio virus discovered in environmental samples in the Jerusalem District and the Central Region
The Israel Ministry of Health reported on the discovery of polio virus in environmental samples (wastewater) in the Jerusalem District, positive samples were also found in additional sites in the Center region- Bnei Brak, Ramle Lod and the Shafdan.
In order to protect the public from polio, including the paralysis caused by the virus, the Ministry of Health calls on those who have not been vaccinated against polio to complete the vaccination urgently. The vaccines are distributed throughout the country and at the student health services.
If the child's vaccination status is unknown, it can be checked on the government's personal website, through the digital vaccination register.

In the guidance that the Ministry of Health sent to district and subdistrict physicians, to the medical directors of the health funds and to the directors of general hospitals, it was determined that the current response is based on the following general principles of action: completing vaccinations and closing gaps; tightening clinical monitoring while conducting strict monitoring for the early identification of suspected cases of acute flaccid paralysis, and immediately reporting to the Health Bureau any suspected case; continuing increased environmental monitoring in accordance with the established sampling plan.
