New York City health officials, in an update Friday, report 54 Legionnaires’ disease cases in a cluster in the Upper East Side neighborhoods of Carnegie Hill and Yorkville (ZIP codes 10028, 10128, and 10075).
18 people required hospitalization for their illness.
New York City health officials have zeroed in on 31 total buildings that tested positive for the Legionella, including the Guggenheim Museum, divided into two categories: 19 buildings that have drained, cleaned and disinfected their cooling towers; and 12 buildings where the cleaning is still pending. This is out of 183 buildings with cooling towers tested.
