The provincial Minister of Health of Sud-Ubangi province, in northwest Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Doctor Ernest Monganza announced that in 2024, a total of 1,579,993 cases of malaria including 675 deaths were recorded in the province of Sud-Ubangi.
“These figures demonstrate that malaria is a major public health problem in Sud-Ubangi for which we must further mobilize resources and efforts for the fight," said Dr. Monganza.
It should be noted that malaria remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children under 5 years of age in sub-Saharan Africa in general and in the Democratic Republic of Congo in particular.
In 2023, a total of 22,224 people died from malaria in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the Malaria Control Programme report.
