In a follow-up on a report two weeks ago, the Buenos Aires National Health Service (BEN) reports that a total of 22 cases have been confirmed, distributed between the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA) and the Province of Buenos Aires (PBA).
The majority of the cases are concentrated in Commune 14, where the first case in the transmission chain was detected, and in specific areas of PBA.
In Buenos Aires City, 10 cases have been confirmed to date. Transmission has occurred primarily among cohabitants or work contacts in areas close to the imported case. Four of the cases are considered community transmission due to the lack of identifiable direct contact with confirmed cases. One of the cases has no proven link to the other cases, as genomic sequences could not be obtained to establish a link with known transmission chains.
Meanwhile, in PBA, a new case with a confirmed epidemiological link has been reported during the last week, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 12. An epidemiological link has been established in 8 cases. Of the remaining 6, 1 has a history of travel to Thailand and represents a potential new transmission chain, 1 is a contact identified in the epidemiological investigation, and in the remaining 4, the link to known transmission chains has not yet been established.
