West Texas
Texas state health officials report the measles outbreak in the South Plains and Panhandle regions of the state has risen to 327 cases in 15 counties in the approximately past two months.
There has been one fatality in a school-aged child who lived in the outbreak area. The child was not vaccinated and had no known underlying conditions.
325 cases were unvaccinated, or with unknown vaccination status, while two cases were fully vaccinated (2 doses of MMR vaccine).
Outside of the outbreak, Texas officials have reported another eight cases not associated with the outbreak.
New Mexico
The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) reported one additional measles case in Lea County, bringing the state outbreak total to 43 cases (41 in Lea County and 2 in Eddy County).
Earlier this month, health officials reported an unvaccinated Lea County resident tested measles positive after death. The investigation continues.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Department of Health now reports nine total measles cases among unvaccinated individuals in northeastern Oklahoma- 7 confirmed and 2 probable.
All cases are linked through exposures to household or extended family; and initial cases reported exposure to the measles outbreak in West Texas and New Mexico. At this time, no cases have resulted from exposure to public settings.
