The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is reporting a measles outbreak in the state after the total cases have risen to 23, up from 10 reported on March 21.
Cases have been reported from the following counties: Kiowa (6), Stevens (6) and less than six each in Grant, Gray, Haskell and Morton counties.
The vast majority of cases are unvaccinated.
The outbreak of measles in Kansas comes as state lawmakers in Topeka are considering a bill that includes loosening vaccine requirements in child care regulations.
In the United States to date, well over 400 measles cases have been reported.
