An outbreak of meningococcal infection occurred in Cherepovets, Vologda Oblast, among migrants involved in the construction of facilities at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant. Twelve foreign citizens were hospitalized, four of whom were discharged, according to the Vologda Oblast Health Ministry.
"Twelve foreign citizens who fell ill between March 15 and 16 have been hospitalized. Six of them have been diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis, another with unspecified meningitis, and five with acute respiratory viral infections. As of March 17, four have been discharged, and eight are undergoing hospital treatment," the regional Health Ministry said.
According to the Cherepovets mayor's office, all those infected are employed by the company "Esta". "Anti-epidemic measures have been taken in the outbreak areas: a total of 90 people have been examined, all have been prescribed chemoprophylaxis, 54 have been vaccinated against meningococcal infection. The Rospotrebnadzor Administration has issued an order to the employer to organize anti-epidemic measures at the workplace," the report says.
