In a follow-up on the measles situation in Mexico, the Ministry of Health has reported 3,961 cumulative confirmed measles cases, as of August 7, in 20 states and 84 municipalities across the country.
Of this total, 3,703 cases were reported from Chihuahua state (93 percent). This is followed by Sonora (86) and Coahuila (45) states.
14 deaths have been reported with Chihuahua accounting for 13 of the fatalities.
Confirmed measles cases affect both sexes (48% men and 52% women). Regarding the number of cases, the most affected age group is 0 to 4 years of age (918 cases), followed by 25 to 29 years of age with 534 cases, and 30 to 34 years of age with 441 cases.
Regarding the incidence rate, the 0 to 4 age group reported the highest incidence rate (8.82 cases per 100,000 inhabitants under 4 years of age), followed by the 25 to 29 and 30 to 34 age groups with incidence rates of 5.04 and 4.22, respectively.
Nationally, 7,524 probable measles cases have been reported.
