Mexico measles outbreak tops 12,000 confirmed cases in 2026
Mexico City reports more than 1,000 cases this year
The Mexico Ministry of Health reports that the total confirmed measles cases since the beginning of the year is now 12,092.
The most confirmed cases are from Jalisco state (6574), Mexico City (1005) and Chiapas state (845).
17 measles related deaths have been reported in 2026 to date.
18,706 confirmed measles cases have been reported since the outbreak began in January 2025.
Across the cumulative total of confirmed cases for 2025–2026, all 32 states have reported measles cases, distributed across 502 municipalities.
The age group with the highest number of cases is 1 to 4 years (2,472 cases), followed by the 5-to-9-year-old group (2,183 cases) and the 25-to-29-year-old group (2,131 cases).
The highest incidence rate is observed among children under one year of age, at 91.91 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by the 1-to-4 and 5-to-9 age groups, with rates of 28.85 and 20.62, respectively.
Regarding fatalities, a total of 44 deaths have been confirmed during the 2025–2026 period, distributed across 11 states: Chihuahua (21), Zacatecas (6), Jalisco (5), Mexico City (4), Durango (2), Michoacán (1), Chiapas (1), Guerrero (1), Sinaloa (1), Sonora (1), and Tlaxcala (1).
