A measles outbreak has been reported in mid August after a case was confirmed in Opuwo district after a 9 year old foreign national residing in Opuwo town tested positive for the disease by Measles IgM.
The case presented with fever, rash, cough and conjunctivitis. The child was unvaccinated and had no recent travel history.
An additional 16 suspected measles cases were reported in early September. To date, a cumulative 17 measles cases (one confirmed) and no deaths have been reported in Namibia.
In Africa in 2025, nearly 124,000 total measles cases, including 9,300 confirmed cases and 939 deaths have been reported in 19 African countries since the beginning of the year.
