Thank you for this. I suspect my dog, a small bernedoodle, is recovering from the plague, but I called three vets, including two emergency vets, and they can't see him for two or three weeks. Should I just wait???
His symptoms: hard round lump under his jaw, hacking cough, lethargy, lack of appetite, dry scratchy nose. Plus I found a dead pack rat on the deck (he has no access to that deck). The dog is a little hunter: pack rats, mice, lizards, birds. I didn't put the pieces together until reading an article this morning. He seems better now, but I'd kinda like to know if I've got plague critters on my land!
