The Panama Ministry of Health reports that through November 9 this year, a total of 27,527 accumulated cases of dengue have been recorded nationwide.
This compares with 20,875 cases reported in 2023 and 11,924 cases in 2022.
According to the reported from the Department of Epidemiology report, the Metropolitan Region with 7,463 leads the region with the most cases; followed by Colón with 3,113; San Miguelito 3,022; Panama West with 2,845; Panama North with 2,596; Bocas del Toro with 1,674; Panama East with 1,615 cases Chiriquà 1,570; Los Santos with 993; Darién with 654; Coclé with 529; Veraguas with 442; Herrera 438; Ngäbe-Buglé region with 306; Kuna Yala with 259. 8 cases are reported in foreigners.
According to health officials, 2,351 hospitalizations have been recorded so far in 2024, of which 52% are concentrated in the following regions: Metropolitan region (642), West Panama (305) and Colón (281).
49 cumulative dengue deaths have been reported from the following regions: Colon (14), Metropolitan (10), Chiriqui (6), North Panama (5), West Panama (4), Cocle (2), Ngäbe-Bugle (2), East Panama (1), San Miguelito (1), Kuna Yala (1), Los Santos (1), Bocas del Toro (1) and abroad (1).
According to this latest epidemiological report, the national fatality rate is 0.18%. Â
The Ministry of Health reiterates to the people residing in the territory of the Republic of Panama, its support in raising awareness of the elimination of all mosquito breeding sites around and inside homes, in order to prevent the transmission of Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya and any other mosquito-borne disease.
The main symptoms of dengue include fever, headache, general malaise, muscle pain and eye pain.
Dengue is a serious and potentially fatal disease transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
