Paraguay reports dengue circulation throughout the country
Also chikungunya outbreak
The General Directorate of Health Surveillance reports an average of 873 cases per week, or more than 16,000 cases of suspected dengue across all regions of the country in the first 19 weeks of 2025.
Concerning chikungunya, there have been 22 reported cases of chikungunya. There is currently a chikungunya outbreak in the city of Villarrica, with four confirmed cases to date in the Centro, Rincón, and Santa Librada neighborhoods. No cases of the Zika virus or oropharynx have been confirmed so far.
Health officials recommend at the first sign of dengue, Zika, or chikungunya, seek medical attention promptly to prevent complications.
It is essential to use mosquito repellent and mosquito nets on beds, cribs, and strollers as a protective measure against mosquito bites, as well as installing metal screens on doors and windows.
’Tis the Season for Ticks and Mosquitoes
It is important to insist on environmental control and the elimination of potential mosquito breeding sites, especially after each rainfall.
Unusable objects that cannot be disposed of, such as household appliances, tires, or other items, should be placed under a roof or covered to prevent them from accumulating water. Drums or containers of water that will be used should be kept tightly covered.
It is also recommended to change your pets' water daily to prevent them from becoming breeding grounds, after cleaning the bowl with a brush, soap, and water. It is equally important to discard any accumulated water in flowerpots or planters.
