The National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Control of Diseases (CDC Peru) of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has issued an epidemiological alert due to the increase in cases of dengue nationwide, associated with factors such as climatic variability and the circulation of the DENV-3 serotype. This situation puts the population at risk, especially in regions with active outbreaks and sustained transmission of the virus.
In our country, during 2024, 273,847 cases of dengue have been reported nationwide up to epidemiological week (EW) 46, 10.1% higher compared to the previous year. 90.29% correspond to dengue without warning signs, 9.44% to cases with warning signs, and 0.27% to severe dengue; with a national cumulative incidence rate of 802.81 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In addition, 259 deaths have been recorded, 252 of them directly attributed to dengue.

From Epi Week 40 onwards, an upward trend in dengue cases is observed. The departments that have been showing this increase are: Loreto, San MartÃn, Piura, Tumbes, Ucayali, Huánuco, JunÃn, Cusco, Cajamarca, Madre de Dios, Pasco, Amazonas and Ayacucho. In Epi Week 46; There are 31 districts in an outbreak situation: Yurimaguas, Lagunas, Requena, Barranca, Belén (Loreto), Moyobamba, Tarapoto, Juanjui, Pachiza, Pardo Miguel, Morales, Nuevo Progreso, Pólvora and Tocache (San Martin), Castilla, Paita, Piura, Sullana, Pariñas and Chulucanas (Piura), Tumbes (Tumbes), Chanchamayo, San Ramón and Pangoa (JunÃn), CallerÃa and Padre Abad (Ucayali), Rupa Rupa and Codo del Pozuzo (Huánuco), Tambopata (Madre de Dios), Jaén (Cajamarca) and Nieva (Amazonas); In addition, there are 52 districts that present active transmission and 68 are in a plateau.
Finally, the CDC issues this alert and provides recommendations with the aim of managing and implementing comprehensive measures that contribute to the control, care and timely monitoring of patients with dengue.
