Health officials in the province of Agusan del Sur reported on Tuesday the first confirmed mpox, or monkeypox case. This is also considered to be the first mpox case in the Caraga region.
According to a public health advisory issued June 17, the patient had a travel history to Davao City and subsequently developed a pimple-like rash on his face, prompting a consultation with a physician.
He was immediately hospitalized and isolated for monitoring and treatment.
The Provincial Health Office of Agusan del Sur (PHO-ADS) says the close contacts have not developed any signs and symptoms.
Officials urge all AgSurnon to stay calm, vigilant, and adherent to the minimum public health protocols:
Avoid intimate or skin-to-skin contact (e.g., kissing, hugging, sexual activity) with a symptomatic individual.
Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gloves and masks when caring for an infected individual.
Wash hands frequently with soap and running water or use alcohol-based sanitizers, especially when touching animals, surfaces, or infected individuals.
Clean shared spaces and contaminated objects regularly.
Check Mpox alerts at your desired travel destinations. Follow protocols at airports, seaports, and public transports.
