The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO) reports that through February 22, 1,012 cases have been reported in the province, up 422 percent from the 194 cases reported during the same period in 2024.
In addition, six deaths have been reported.
Bago City has seen the most cases (209), followed by La Carlota City (74), Kabankalan City (70) and San Carlos City (67).
Provincial health officer, Dr. Girlie Pinongan said they were practicing the Department of Health’s (DOH) “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” campaign to combat the increase in dengue cases.
“It is being instilled as a daily practice in all the barangays for residents to clean their surroundings every 4 p.m. and to ensure the removal of mosquito breeding places,” she said.
She also advised persons with dengue symptoms to seek medical help immediately at their nearest health facilities to avoid a surge in cases.
Nationally, the DOH reports more than 52,000 dengue cases, an increase of 64 percent compared to last year, with Calabarzon recorded the highest number of cases with 10,759 followed by the National Capital Region with 9,302 and Central Luzon, 8,652.
